The colors of autumn inspire students and poets
In "The Consent," longtime faculty member and U.S. Poet Laureate Howard Nemerov wrote about the ginkgo trees he loved: "the golden and green leaves litter the lawn today, that yesterday had spread aloft their fluttering fans of light." A hand-drafted copy of the full poem hangs outside the entrance to Olin Library's Ginkgo Reading Room. Many of this late poet's papers are archived in Olin Library.

Preparing for a medical career
In addition to teaching clinical skills to medical and postgraduate students, some physicians also work with undergraduate students. Approximately 90 percent of Washington University's pre-health students take part in MedPrep. This special lecture series features pre-health advisors, deans of medical admissions and financial aid, residents from various specialties and pre-med students sharing information on medical education — from navigating the admissions process to becoming a board-certified physician — and on the realities of a medical career, including dealing with death. MedPrep students also have the opportunity to shadow emergency medicine physicians. (Faculty pictured above).
