John E. Simon Hall

Dedicated in April 1986, Simon Hall is one of the largest academic buildings on the Danforth Campus of Washington University in St. Louis, with 80,000 feet of usable floor space.


John E. Simon

John E. Simon was born in 1896 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Smith Academy, a former boys’ preparatory school once operated by Washington University. He graduated from Harvard in 1918 and served in World War I.

In 1919, he began work for I.M. Simon & Co., a St. Louis investment firm founded by his uncle. From 1928 until 1974, he served as general partner at the company and later served as limited partner. Simon was also a U.S. bridge champion and life master; he represented the U.S. in the World Bridge Olympics in 1962, 1966 and 1978.
