Building performance requirements

The list below is the building performance requirements that must be established for all buildings on campus.

  • Minimum energy performance by building type.
  • Define commissioning requirements and documentation needs. Commissioning ensures that systems in a new building are operating at the desired efficiency after construction is completed.
  • Define potable water consumption rates.
  • Define site permeability and storm water management requirements.
  • Define where and how much to use reusable materials.
  • Audit our current recycling process and establish standards for the infrastructure inside and out.
  • Define standards to incorporate alternative transportation into buildings.
  • Define standards for information and educational displays, including LEED certification plaques.
  • Develop a database to track process and certification levels.
  • Define which projects will be actually LEED-certified and which will just apply sustainable design practices. Not all projects will pursue the full certification process, although all projects will follow the standards required for Silver Certification.
  • Define the specific performance requirements of our LEED checklist for new construction, significant renovations and existing buildings.
  • Define design principles for durability and flexibility of building space and historic preservation.
  • Define qualification for internal and external professionals, including LEED accreditation and project experience.
