Green Roof

A green roof is a roof of a building which is at least partially covered in growing plant material, typically with a soil medium and plantings. Container gardening on the roofs of buildings is not typically considered to be a green roof. Green roofs provide additional insulation for a building, reducing energy costs, as well as absorbing rain water and reducing run off. Replacing standard roofs with green roofs can also have an impact on the heat island effect. More information about green roofs can be found on the EPA region 8’s website and at greenroofs.com.
