Low emissions vehicles are vehicles that use either alternative forms of combustion or fuel or are substantially more efficient than standard models. Standards for low emissions vehicles are set by the EPA, and have been since 1970, but the most aggressive LEV standards are found in California, and these standards have been adopted in several other states as well.
