Tietjens Memorial Music Studio
The Paul Tietjens Memorial Music Studio was completed in 1974 and dedicated in 1975. It contains several sound-proof practice rooms, the majority containing either studio or concert pianos. There is also a large area for band, choral, or orchestra practice, and a recording studio.
Paul Tietjens was born in St. Louis in 1877. He was a pianist and composer best known for writing the music for the original 1902 stage production of The Wizard of Oz. Otto Tietjens, brother of the composer, included in his will a bequest for the building. Tietjens Studio was designed by the firm of Smith and Entzeroth of St. Louis. Paul Tietjens died in 1943.
